One of the hardest thing for many brands and especially experienced direct marketers to understand about social media is that it’s not about YOU. It’s absolutely NOT selfish, but rather about providing relevant, selfless value to others.
Today’s social graphic is a photo we created to try to get that concept across in a fun way. If you heard yourself going “awwwwwww” when you opened this page, it worked!
Here are three points to remember:
1) As you spend time in your social media management, be sure that you are considering your target audience and what is interesting to them.
2) Ensure your social media marketing is providing selfless, relevant, valuable content for that target market.
3) Be helpful to others and play nice! :-)

I think everyone forgets this from time to time as most people spend time on social media when they are bored but it is a truly selfless community that “shares” whatever they find of value with one another. I think the ones who grasp this are a step ahead of the game and start sharing not only what they find relevant for their own lives, but also what their friends may find relevant. Once those members start sharing information that more people than just their friends will find relevant is when they open Pandora’s box and become an influencer.

For me, it’s all about what my followers, fans and prospects will find relevant and valuable. Everything else is just to make me human. #COFFEE!!!! :-)
Thanx for jumping in Tyler!
